EXTREMELY IMPORTANT PAIRPOINT PUFFY OWL LAMP; THIS IS THE RAREST AND MOST DESIRABLE OF ALL THE PAIRPOINT LAMPS EVER MADE. Previously only five examples of owl lamps were known to exist, three examples in the gray or snow owl and two examples in the brown owl. Julia’s is pleased to offer this recently discovered sixth example which is the third known example of the brown owl. To our knowledge this is the first Pairpoint Puffy Owl lamp to be sold at public auction. This highly graphic lamp features an exaggerated, blown out, molded Pairpoint shade resting atop a sculpturesque owl-shaped metal base. The shade, painted in shades of brown, green, white and yellow, featured two large oyster-shaped eye areas painted white with highlights and centered with yellow irises and black pupils. The beak is painted in shades of white and maize located just between the two eyes. The exterior of the shade still retains its original gilded signature, “THE PAIRPOINT CORP”. The delightful shade rests upon a cylindrical ring support affixed to a bronze-colored metal statue base in the form of a perched owl. The metal casting shows good detail to the owl body, wings and head. The head originally fitted with two real glass eyes, brilliant yellow irises with black pupils (one original glass eye missing). The two socket cluster fitted above the owl’s head with original acorn pull chains. The underside of the base is impressed “PAIRPOINT MFG COMPANY 3090”. According to the owner the lamp has been in her family (belonging to her grandfather) for as long as she can remember. She inherited the lamp many years ago and it had set on her living room table until recently when a cousin came to visit and suggested they go to the library and research the lamp. When they discovered the lamp was a rare and valuable piece they called James D. Julia Auctions to inquire about placing it at auction. We are extremely pleased and honored to have the opportunity to bring such a rare and desirable lamp to market. SIZE: Shade is 12-1/2” dia. with a 10” ring; overall 20” t. CONDITION: Generally very good to excellent except as noted above. Please Note: There is a small bruise on the interior of the shade rim (one of our consultant’s referred to this type of a bruise as an “oyster chip”, which never fell out). This is not a crack, but is a small surface bruise. There is considerable wear to the brass/bronze finish on the base but has a pleasing natural patina developed over many years. 5-63601 (50,000-150,000+)
