WONDERFUL 19TH CENTURY PRIMITIVE YARN HOOKED RUG. This wonderful small folky hooked rug was executed with yarn on burlap. The entire rug has been framed in a period lemon-yellow frame and features a motif of a heart within a heart with anchor and cross with either side being decorated with a flowering vine. Initialed at the top “HH” and signed “Mary” and dated below “1880”. The small heart in a deep blood red coloration with the larger heart on the exterior a lighter red, the overall rug in various wonderful earthy color tones. It appears that the rug was probably mounted within the frame shortly after its completion by the proud manufacturer and was recently discovered in a New England home.
