MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE (1757-1834) AUTOGRAPHED LETTER. French Solider and Statesman. 7-1/4” x 9” autographed letter in French signed “Lafayette”, Lagrange, December 31, 1825 to Monseur Granet. In 1777, Lafayette purchased a ship and with a crew of adventurers, set sail for America to fight in the revolution against the British. Lafayette joined the ranks as a Major General and was assigned to the staff of General Washington. He served with distinction, leading American forces to several victories and becoming a hero to the new nation. After the British surrendered at Yorktown, Lafayette returned home to Paris where, in 1830, he became the leader of a Revolution that dethroned the Bourbons. 9-71982 (1,400-1,800)
