ANTIQUE SAROUK ORIENTAL CARPET, CENTRAL PERSIA. Second half 19th century. This fine but worn example with poled blue-black and ivory center medallion on a brick red field within blue-black spandrels, all with dense geometric floral vinery; deep indigo main border with flowerheads in reds and blues within floral trellis work. SIZE: 14’5″ x 10’5″. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection, by descent from Dr. Samuel Cox Hooker (1864, Brenchley England -1935, Brooklyn Heights, New York), a sugar chemist, magician, and art collector, to the present owner, a great-grand-daughter.
