MAHAL ORIENTAL CARPET, CENTRAL PERSIA. Circa 1900. With an unusual design incorporating three rows of three stylized floral bouquets on a blue-black field of dense polychrome floral vinery within a rose guard border of floral sprays in greens, blues and other earth tones. SIZE: 11′ x 9’3″. PROVENANCE: From an East Sangerville, Maine private collection, by descent from Dr. Samuel Cox Hooker (1864, Brenchley England -1935, Brooklyn Heights, New York), a sugar chemist, magician, and art collector, to the present owner, a great-grand-daughter.
