MORETA SNAPHAUNCE PISTOL. NSN. 52 Cal. 9-5/8” part oct bbl. There is a gold cartouche on top of the bbl with a crown over “P / MOR / ETA”. The gold is missing from the second cartouche and it is unreadable. The stock is carved around the lockplate, sideplate and the forearm. The chiseled iron buttcap is fastened by a flower shaped cap over a rivet. The piesced sideplate is also engraved in floral scrolls. The belt hook has sculpted carving at the rear. The lockplate only has edge engraving. The thumb plate is brass. Pietro Moreta worked in Brescia, Italy from 1680 to1740. The plain brass triggerguard has a bulbous finial. The faceted ramrod pipes have turnings on both ends. The wood ramrod has a worn tip and a riveted iron ball screw. CONDITION: Metal parts have been cleaned bright with light pitting on the frizzen and pan cover. Stock shows a repair on the right side of the stock near the butt and another on the forearm.
