JOHN ROGERS GROUP “FOOTBALL”. Signed “John Rogers New York” with title on side of base. Group shows four football players, two men tackling another while a man pulls football from clutches of another. We are told that the four players were all Yale students, three being John Rogers sons and the other was the Captain of the 1888 Championship Football Team. The first professional football game was not played until 1897, four years after this group was completed. College football had started in 1869. SIZE: 16” h x 11” w x 9-1/4” d.
