3 WHALER CUTTING SPADES. Mid-19th century. Comprising two spades with wide blades, the first double-struck with maker’s mark (illegible); the second sharpened on two edges. The third, probably a thin boat spade with square shank. Each example drilled for securing to pole. SIZE: Blades: 1ST: 8″ x 4-1/2″. 2ND: 7-1/4″ x 5″. 3RD: 4″ x 2-1/4″. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private collection. CONDITION: Wide examples with pitting. Thin example with additional rust, remnant of pole still attached. 9-95070-4 (800-1,200)
