2 EARLY GROMMET HARPOONS. Mid-19th century. The first example with the maker’s brand “R. WYERS”. Retaining original grommet and woven hemp attachment for whale line. The second more primitive example having a squared diamond point, mounted with a pair of hinged flanges. Both irons designed for mounting on a wooden pole. SIZE: 1ST: 25-1/2″ l. 2ND: 22″ l. PROVENANCE: From an extensive private collection. CONDITION: Wyers’ example in very good condition overall, hemp fasteners reasonably intact.
