CASED PAIR OF UNMARKED BELGIAN MUFF PISTOLS. Cal. 45. Tiny screw bbl percussion pistols with 1-1/2” micro-rifled damascus bbls, engraved case-colored receiver with case-colored hammer, bag-shaped ebony grips with scallop shell cap box cover on the butt. The pistols are matching, both are numbered 442 and are cased in a fine black leatherette covered casing, brass bound with lock, complete with key and initials “F.R.” embossed on the lid. Case is lined with fine buff-colored suede and contains a bullet mold/nipple wrench combination tool and a tiny copper and brass flask with a bee stamped on the side of the top. Front inside edge of the case is engraved with a French inscription, apparently advertising that the company displayed at the 1855 Paris Expo. The company’s name is apparently “Peret”. CONDITION: Both pistols are in nearly identical condition with bbls retaining about 80% fine damascus pattern. Receivers 85-90% fading case colors, hammers about 90% fading case colors. One grip has a hairline back of the top tang and both have chips at the butt. Case is fine with moderate staining and a little damage with some oil staining in the lid. Mold is fine and the flask exceptionally fine. 4-48896 JR683 (1,000-2,000)
