SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1816 TRANSITIONAL MUSKET. Cal. 69. NSN. 42” rnd bbl. Flat lockplate marked “SPRING / FIELD / 1817” vertically at rear with eagle/“US” in front of cock. Bbl tang is also dated 1817. Top of bbl is marked “A / a / 42”. Bayonet lug is on top of bbl. Ramrod is a replacement. A round Luther Sage inspector cartouche is at rear of left flat of stock. Decent reconversion using some old parts. CONDITION: Gray patina with moderate pitting on bbl and buttplate, light elsewhere. Cracks near buttplate with normal dents and scratches elsewhere on the wood. Mechanically good. Edwards Collection 4-58426 (2,000-3,000)
