ANTOINE GARCIA MENCIA (Italian, 19th Century) MEMORIES OF CHRISTMAS. Outstanding oil on canvas scene shows a pretty young girl dressed in a white fur lined coat having angel wings. She holds three colorful dolls and stands in front of St. Nicholas wearing a white robe with white hood adorned with mistletoe. The Santa figure has a white beard and holds a sack over shoulder and hand on a Christmas tree adorned with small candles. They are walking away from a large European style home which have lights in the windows, all under a dark nighttime sky. Signed lower left “A. Garcia Mencia”. Housed in a modern gilt wood frame. A truly magnificent painting which would be of interest to Santa and doll collectors as well as the art lover. SIZE: 40-1/2” h x 26-1/2” w. CONDITION: There are several very small holes and two vertical slits in left sky. Canvas appears to be untouched and in original found condition. 9-27632 (12,000-18,000)
