PHILADELPHIA SHERATON TALL CASE CLOCK, CROWLEY & FARR. Circa 1823-1825. This fine figured mahogany example with molded swan’s neck pediment terminating in rosettes centering a ball-and-spire brass finial, the astragal-glazed door flanked by free-standing ropetwist colonnettes, opening to the painted dial with moon phase aperture, the dial with paint-decorated and gilt Nautilus spandrels and shells, centering a Roman numeral dial marked with minutes, further centering a calendar aperture and subsidiary seconds dial, marked “Crowley & Farr / PHILAD,a”. The brass works time and strike, the brass hour and minute hands filigreed and gilded. The case fitted with a crossbanded figured door with notched corners, the throat crossbanded and with canted corners, above the conforming box base, raised on turned cylindrical legs with ball feet. Clock sold with winder, door keys, single brass finial, pendulum, and two weights. SIZE: 8’4″ h. x 15″ throat w. x 9-1/2″ d. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Geraldine Gaba, Scottsdale, AZ. CONDITION: Case with cleaned old surfaces and striking figured graining, feet and backboards original, minor veneer chips in case. Works professionally cleaned and maintained, the painted dial and moon phase dial with original paint, very good overall with minimal losses and minor crackle.
