RARE DECORATED FOO DOG COVERED DISH. Paper on inside indicates “House of Shimazu Satsuma Province Circa 1609”. Piece has lid in the form of a Foo Dog head with gaping open mouth, gilt highlights with enamel bead decoration in multiple colors including blue, green, red and yellow. Base is Foo Dog body with four legs ending in paw feet. Large gilt tail with similar beadwork and gilding. Black textured ground with enameled flowers. SIZE: 10-1/2” h x 8” w. CONDITION: One old bruise to tail tip, otherwise very good. 9-94819 (500-1,000)
