VERY GOOD ASSOCIATED SET OF EIGHT DELAWARE OR PENNSYLVANIA WINDSOR FAN-BACK SIDE CHAIRS IN BLACK PAINT. Late 19th Century. Each with a curved and serpentine crest rail with upturned ears above eight spindles joined to the shaped plank seats, some with arched pummels. With splayed ring turned and baluster legs joined by a similarly turned H-stretcher. Although associated, the black paint on the chairs not original; but all seem to have been repainted at an early time over red wash. Some of seats have a more accentuated pummel then others and some seat shapes are more accentuated than others. Chamfering on all seats is good giving an overall very pleasing effect. SIZE: Range from 34-3/4″ to 35-1/4″ h to backs; 16-1/2″ to 18-1/4″ seat h; 16″ to 18″ seat w.
