FIVE DARK BLUE STAFFORDSHIRE HISTORICAL SUGAR BOXES WITH COVERS. Each covered sugar box transfer-decorated in blue, comprising: 1) “Washington Standing at His Tomb with Scroll”, Enoch Wood & Sons impressed mark in base, 6-3/4″ h. 2) “Lafayette at Franklin’s Tomb”, unmarked, 6-3/4″ h. 3) “Commodore MacDonough’s Victory”, unmarked, probably Enoch Wood & Sons, impressed ‘2’ in underglaze blue, irregular shell border, 7″ h. 4) “Mount Vernon, the Seat of the Late Gen’l Washington”, depicting the General beside a prancing horse, Mount Vernon and the Potomac in background, with floral border; marked in underglaze blue within a scrolled cartouche, 5-3/4″ h. 5) “View of the Boston State House”, probably Enoch Wood & Sons; with scrolling floral border, the base with underglaze blue mark depicting the Great American Seal, 5-1/2″ h. SIZE: As noted above. PROVENANCE: From the Estate of Geraldine Gaba, Scottsdale, AZ. CONDITION: 1) Interior glaze is crazed, chip to finial; fair to good. 2) Good with staining in interior of lid and base. 3) Very good overall with rim chip. 4) Good to very good, with minor rim and edge chips. 5) Fair to good with crazing on interior to lid and base, restoration to handles. 9-94830 (1,200-1,800)
