IMPORTANT OIL ON CANVAS “MONHEGAN 1913” BY GEORGE BELLOWS (1882-1925). Scene shows rocky shoreline with tidal pools, ocean beyond and some sky. Painting with broad-brush strokes, unframed, has signature on back of canvas with title and date. There are two labels on reverse, one an address label “John Kendrick Bangs, Cape Neddick, ME” the other “P.B. Cutts 11 19”. Research has indicated Bellows was in Monhegan in 1913. Reference page 142, 109 of Monhegan the Artist Island by Curtis Liberman. SIZE: 18″ h x 20″ CONDITION: Very good. 9-92339 (10,000-20,000)
