THOMAS LUNY (English, 1759-1837) “SHIPPING IN CHOPPY SEAS”. Oil on canvas scene shows three-mast small fishing boat heading through choppy ocean with two large English frigates. White cliffs off right side, single mast large boat in left foreground. Seagulls fly over water and broken mast is seen within waves. Large blue sky with puffy clouds. Signed lower right “Luny”. Housed in a replacement carved and gilt frame. PROVENANCE: Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua, Hawaii. SIZE: 33-1/2” x 50-1/2”. CONDITION: Some inpainting, mostly along top edge. Relined.
