RARE SMITH & WESSON NEW MODEL #3 REVOLVER W/KELTON THUMB SAFETY. Cal. appears to be 44 American. Blue finish, 6-1/2” keyhole ribbed bbl, 2-line address, pinned half moon steel front sight with a fixed sight dovetailed into the top strap just in front of the original sight. Right side of the frame is affixed with the Kelton thumb rest safety as appears on pages 229 through 231 in Smith & Wesson 1857-1945 by Neal & Jinks. This revolver falls outside the serial range of New Models mentioned on page 219 of the same book. Serial number is followed by a star indicating factory refinish and the left side of the grip frame under the grip is stamped with a diamond and the date “3 24”, apparently the date of the refinish. SN 1651. CONDITION: Excellent as refinished. All matching except the grips which are numbered to another revolver. Retains 98-99% strong bright factory blue with the hammer retaining about 95% good case colors. Trigger guard retains 10-15% case colors with the balance turned silver. Grips are sound and show moderate to heavy wear. Bore is bright and shiny with a few tiny spots of rust. Crisp mechanics.
