FOLK ART WATERCOLOR OF THE YACHT MYRTLE OF HANCOCK BY P. S. DOWNER OF PORTLAND, MAINE. Watercolor/drawing is on heavy paper, which is framed outside of border. Scene shows the yacht Myrtle sailing right to left flying American flag. On left side is boathouse with dock flying American flag. Other sailboat present. Colorful sky with many birds. Right corner has several banners indicating title, artist, and location. Also, “By an Old Sailor 79 Years of Age and 54 Years at Sea, Remember me June 2, 1889”. Reference, another example of his work is located at the New York Historical Society at Cooperstown Museum, which incorrectly has the name Downes. IMAGE SIZE: 11″ h x 18″ w.
