COLT SAN FRANCISCO POLICE LIGHTNING RIFLE. Cal. 44 (44-40). One of only 401 ordered by the San Francisco Police Department. Standard grade rifle with 26” round bbl, German silver Rocky Mountain front sight with Colt semi-buckhorn rear sight. Uncheckered wood with smooth forearm, flared at the back end with original lightly incised 2-line border and straight stock with crescent steel buttplate. Lower tang is marked “S.F.P. 253” which is also the serial number. CONDITION: Extremely fine retaining about all of its bright original blue with only minor handling and storage marks on the wood and a few tiny scratches on the receiver. Top tang is flaked to about 70% and there is a tiny sliver of wood missing by the top tang with a 1/8” x 1/4” gouge on the right wrist. Hammer retains virtually all its original case colors and the buttplate 95-97% original blue. Slide area shows almost no wear and it is probably unfired. Brilliant shiny bore.
