CHARLES GREEN SHAW (American, 1892-1974) PLAYING CARD MONTAGE. A framed collage of four 18th Century French playing cards and four ivory gaming pieces. They are centered on a bronze round metal dated 1897. All pieces are backed to a red felt-like fabric. Housed in a ebonized and gilt wood frame having an original label on back “Montage by Shaw”, a number sticker at top of frame “386”. A pamphlet titled “Montages by Charles Shaw: An Exhibition at Washburn Gallery New York”, dated 1976 accompanies the lot. A similar example is pictured and this may have been in that exhibit. SIZE: Overall 17-1/2″ x 14-1/2″. SIGHT: 15-1/4″ x 12-1/2″. CONDITION: There is a small “L” shaped tear in backing fabric, otherwise good. 9-92023 (1,500-2,000)
