*EXTREMELY RARE WINCHESTER MODEL 55 DELUXE ENGRAVED LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 30 WCF. SN 1817. A most rare modern Winchester with 24-1/4” tapered rnd bbl, pedestal front sight and semi-buckhorn rear sight. It has very highly figured center crotch cut American walnut stock and forearm that are beautifully carved in style “B” which includes foliate and arabesque patterns with stippled background. It has capped pistol grip stock and serrated steel buttplate. The receiver is factory engraved in No. 2 pattern depicting two deer on the left side and a moose on the right side, surrounded by arabesque patterns. The engraving extends over the chamber on the bbl, top of the bolt and behind the hammer on the tang. This rifle is pictured in R.L. Wilson’s Winchester Engraving, Second Edition, page 290, a full page color spread showing both sides. CONDITION: Extremely fine. Metal retains 96-97% strong bright original blue with minor muzzle and sharp edge wear and slight fading on the bottom of the receiver with some flaking on the floor plate. Wood is sound and retains most of its original factory oil finish with some very minor light handling and use marks. Mechanics are fine, bright shiny bore. 4-52446 JR240 (30,000-50,000)
