JAMES HAMILTON (American, 1819-1878) A BUSY SHIPPING LANE. Large oil on canvas scene shows various ships on a green choppy ocean with a central fishing boat with sails up coming towards viewer. Several other boats are seen on horizon line, three larger ships with sails down, one being a steamer and two other fishing boats beside. Several sails are seen in distant horizon. All under a white cloud and blue sky. Signed lower left “Hamilton”. Housed in a gilt molded wood frame with gilt liner. SIZE: 30-1/2″ x 50-1/4″. CONDITION: Craquelure, inpainting. Otherwise generally good with heavy discolored varnish and surface dirt. 9-94662 (6,000-8,000)
