CARVED AND PAINTED EAGLE PLAQUE ATTRIBUTED TO JOHN HALEY BELLAMY (1836-1914). Well carved spread wing eagle in white having red tongue and red eye. Below is a red, white and blue stylized shield. An attached banner in red, white and blue “Don’t Give Up the Ship” having carved five pointed star in white against a blue background. A carved gold and brown staff holds banner. REFERENCE: Page 67 in John Haley Bellamy Carver of Eagles by Smith. Bellamy is considered one of New England’s finest wood carvers and was best known for this type of carved eagle. SIZE: 25-1/2” l x 9” h. CONDITION: Restored. The eagle’s right wing has restored break and an added feather section at bottom. There is a shadow where paper covered the screw hole in back. Some enhancement to the paint and discolored over-varnish. 9-70768 (15,000-25,000)
