SCARCE EVANS FIRST MODEL CARBINE. CAL. 44 Evans. 22” rnd bbl, marked “EVANS REPEATING RIFLE / PAT. DEC. 8, 1868 & SEPT. 16, 1871 / 498” to top of the bbl in front of the folding rear sight with six sighting holes and two notches. The First Model Evans is identified by the lack of wood below the magazine tube. CONDITION: Brown patina on the bbl, hammer and loading lever. Receiver, magazine tube and buttplate have been cleaned to white. Scattered light pitting on all surfaces. Small crack in ladder. Wood has normal dents and scratches.
