JAMES BARD (American, 1815-1897) SIDE-WHEELER JESSE HOYT. Large watercolor shows side-wheeler sailing right to left flying flags in motion. The ship takes up most of the length of the painting and has a backdrop of brown sky with white clouds. In background are houses on small bluffs indicative of the Hudson River. Also small sailboats along shore. The painting is signed “J. Bard, NY” on bottom right corner. Ship flies banner at front identifying ship, also American and identifying banner at stern. Two flags fly in front of double stacks and two fly at mid-ships. There is an eagle atop front mast. Windows have white and red swag curtains. Blue and white water. Housed in a fine reproduction gilt frame with linen liner with gold trim. SIGHT SIZE: 25-1/4” x 49-1/4”. CONDITION: Restored in good to very good condition with faint outline of previous stain. 9-94200 (15,000-25,000)
