VICTOR DE GRAILLY (French/American 1804-1889) “EASTPORT FROM PASSAMAQUODDY BAY”. Fine unsigned oil on canvas scene of the Maine coast showing Passamaquoddy Bay, islands and far away town seen from a shoreline with people picnicking, a man on horseback and a man and woman with parasol. Several ships and smaller boats are seen on calm water. All seen under a blue and cloud sky with rising sun. The painting is housed in a fine gesso decorated gilt frame which may be original. Backing board has a Museum of Fine Arts, Boston label with artist, title and the owner (Child’s Gallery). A label on the frame indicates that it was sold 10/29/82 at Skinners, Bolton, MA. PROVENANCE: From a Downeast, Maine Collection. SIZE: 17-1/4” x 23-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good with light craquelure. 9-70497 (12,000-16,000)
