RARE PALMER CARBINE. Cal. 50 RF. NSN. Fine light carbine with 20” rnd bbl and integral receiver. It has a small wedge shaped front sight and 2-position flip rear sight just over the chamber area. It has a tiny bolt that when turned 1/4 revolution allows the bolt to be opened for loading and extraction. It is mounted in a 1- pc walnut stock with raised side flats and a staple and ring in the left side. It has a 2- pc Springfield type trigger guard and a front action lock. The top of the receiver is marked “Wm. Palmer / Patent / December 22, 1863” and the lockplate is marked in front of the hammer “U.S. / E.G. Lamson & Co. / Windsor VT” with the date “1865” behind the hammer. The left side flat has a fine crisp “MM” cartouche with two additional tiny “MM” stamps just below the saddle ring and another “MM” inspector proof on the left side of the chamber. Another “MM” proof appears in the wood just above the buttplate tang and the buttplate tang has a “P” proof. The hammer also has a “P” proof and the bbl band has a “U” proof. It is accompanied by an original wooden tampion. CONDITION: Exceedingly fine, pristine new, retaining virtually all of its crisp original factory finish to both metal and wood with brilliant case colors on the lockplate and hammer, slightly faded on the trigger guard and buttplate. Wood has minor storage nicks and scratches but still has the raised grain appearance. Lock screws retain their fine niter blue. Mechanics are crisp and it has a pristine shiny bore. 4-52567 JR446 (8,000-15,000)
