IDENTIFIED GROUPING OF A. BENSON BROWN 9TH NEW JERSEY VOLUNTEERS. Grouping consists of foot officer’s sword , epaulets, hat insignia, buttons, inscribed book and inscribed belt buckle. 1) Nonregulation Field Officer’s and Staff sword. French import, with white etched blade. Hilt exhibits eagle, patriotic shield over six flags, French proofed blade. Scabbard is Ames marked Foot Officer’s scabbard. Old sword knot is tied to scabbard. CONDITION: Sword is in attic condition. Etched panels are complete with large patches of black rust. Scabbard mounts and hilt exhibit dusty untouched patina. Leather scabbard body is sound. 2) Small book titled “Field Record of Officers of the Veteran Reserve Corps from the Commencement to the Close of the Rebellion” is inscribed “A. Benson Brown/Fairfield 1st of May 1866/ Captain 11Th. Reg. Veteran R.Corp, Late 9th New Jersey Vet. Vols.” CONDITION: Very good consisting of 39 pages with marbled end papers, 3/4” leather bound. 3) Eagle buckle of white metal inscribed “A. Benson Brown 9th N.J. Vol. Sept 10th 1861”. CONDITION: Very good, unusual white metal buckle complete with keeper. 4) Box of over 50 buttons mostly eagle I’s, various back marks with the majority being “D. Evans & Co. Attleboro, Mass”. CONDITION: Near excellent with most having 100% gilt. 5) Pair of epaulets with Horstmannn paper label and Infantry bumper with number 1. CONDITION: Good. 6) Group of post war fraternal and Knights Templar buttons. 7) Old fire badge. 4-49037 JS69 (3,000-4,000)
