NEARLY NEW AND RARE SPRINGFIELD 3RD TYPE OFFICER’S MODEL TRAP DOOR RIFLE. Cal. 45-70. SN None. Beautiful sporting rifle with 26″ tapered rnd bbl, gold washed Beach’s front sight and standard ski jump ladder rifle rear sight. It is mounted in a very nicely checkered 1-piece half stock with attached checkered walnut grip. It has a 2-piece carbine type trigger guard and a silver-plated engraved pewter nose cap and has a single bbl band. The bottom of the bbl has a single iron guide containing an original hickory ramrod. The bbl has usual markings and the stock a crisp “SWP / 1885” cartouche in a square. The top of the wrist is mounted with an original ladder sight. The lockplate, hammer, breechblock, bbl band and buttplate tang are beautifully engraved with foliate arabesque patterns. The top tang and trigger guard are engraved to match. CONDITION: Extraordinarily fine, as new. Appears to be unfired retaining virtually all of its original arsenal finish to both metal and wood. Bbl has a couple of tiny nicks and the stock a very few tiny storage nicks and scratches with a couple of small bruises near the toe. Lockplate, hammer, breech block and trigger guard retain most of their muted original case colors. Mechanics are crisp, brilliant shiny bore. 4-52626 JR744 (30,000-50,000)
