THOMAS F. O’NEIL (American, 1852–1922) HAYING THE FIELD. Large oil on canvas scene showing several men stacking hay in a late summer landscape. Several stacks of hay are seen, one in foreground with jacket, hat, jug beside. Signed, lower left and date “91”. Gathering dark clouds are seen amongst white and blue sky. Housed in its original gilt, gesso decorated frame with a Portland, Maine label. O’Neil was a member of Brushians and he received the nickname “The Policeman”. SIZE: 22” x 36”. CONDITION: Small, canvas patch to the reverse. Minor inpainting. Very good. 9-72592 (800-1,200)
