EARLY SHEPPARD FOWLING PIECE OR MUSKET. NSN. Cal. 80. 46” part oct bbl. The lock plate is engraved “SHEPPARD” in front of the hammer. The number 735 is engraved on top of the bbl. The banana lockplate is 6-3/4” long. The butt is heavy and of the transition style between Connecticut River and Hudson River styles. Wood appears to be cherry and it has been cut about 2-1/2” from the muzzle. A front sight has been added. Ramrod is a replacement and too short for this gun. The mainspring is a replacement not utilizing the orig holes in the lockplate. The tumbler has been broken and repaired. The pan, frizzen, and hammer appear to be original.
