UNSIGNED (Chinese School, Circa 1890) STEAM-AND-SAIL “ABERDEEN”. Oil on canvas portrait shows ship sailing left to right with full sails on three-masts. Center stack has smoke billowing. Several sailors are seen on deck. Green and red hull. British red Ensign flies off stern. Flag over middle mast of the Aberdeen & Commonwealth Line. The Aberdeen was 3620 tons and built in 1881 by R. Napier & Sons. Name is on bow. Several sails are seen in distance with seagulls flying over a deep blue wavy ocean. Light blue sky with pink and white clouds. Housed in a replacement oriental style carved wood frame with gold liner. Label affixed to back of Paul Mason Gallery, London. PROVENANCE: A CT estate. SIZE: 18-1/2” x 24”. CONDITION: Relined with some restoration. Very good. 9-94601 (8,000-12,000)
