JOHANN BERTHELSEN (American, 1883-1972) WINTER IN NEW YORK CITY. Unsigned oil on canvas scene shows several pedestrians walking through a snowy street with cars and tall buildings. Housed in its original gesso decorated gilt frame with linen and gilt lining. Frame has an original label from the S. Klein Department Store which was located on Union Square in New York City. Label indicates a Prop Dept. number and indicates that it was purchased from the artist Johann Berthelsen for a cost of $250 and this was one of six commissioned. At the top of the back of the frame indicates that it was located at the third floor escalator. SIZE: 30″ x 24″. CONDITION: Very good, canvas needs re-tightening. 9-92622 (6,000-8,000)
