VERY RARE MAHOGANY ANGLE BAROMETER BY WHITEHURST, DERBY 1758. John Whitehurst (1713-1788). Oak case with mahogany veneers with banded corners having small bead molding. Gadrooned crest and cup shaped cistern cover. The weather indications are standard (Stormy, Rain, Changeable, Fair and Settled Fair) but the scale is from 0 to 60. The silvered brass register plates are protected by glass. The bottom register signed “Whitehurst Derby 1758”. John Whitehurst was a clockmaker, instrument maker and an assayer. SIZE: 38-1/2” h x 28-1/4” w. CONDITION: The angled tube is broken. There is a repair to the back top, which has a new backboard. Some minor veneer damage, appears to be intact. 9-95020 (8,000-12,000)
