EARLY ENGLISH FLINTLOCK OFFICERS FUSIL. NSN. 80 Cal. 39” rnd bbl. The 7-1/8” banana lock has no exterior markings. Faint cartouches at the rear of the bbl. Several numbers are stamped on the butt, but do not appear to have any significance. Typical Brown Bess configuration except the sideplate is flat. The lockplate has a sunken cartouche “IW” inside indicating that it was made by John Walker who was active from 1720 to 1740. The frizzen has no bridle. The lock also is in its orig configuration. There is line engraving around the edges of all the brass fittings and scroll engraving on the bow of the triggerguard. The thumb plate is in the shape of a vase with engraved flowers at the top. The stock is carved in a beavertail form around the rear of the bbl tang. CONDITION: Good. Smooth brown patina on lock and bbl. Dark patina on the brass. Stock has some repaired cracks in the lock area and some missing chips on both sides of the stock and forearm. Mechanically fine. 4-60240 FS737 (4,000-6,000)
