ANTIQUE OCCUPATIONAL SHAVING MUG WITH TWO FISHERMEN. In the late 19th and early 20th C., if one frequented a local barbershop you would often have your own shaving mug. Most people, particularly if they had an occupation, had their shaving mug decorated with a subject matter representing their job, their interest or their history. This example depicts two late 19th C./early 20th C. fishermen returning in a boat; one holds the catch, the other with fly rods. The vignette framed in fancy gilt with a floral bouquet and the sides of the mug painted black and the handle and edges trimmed in gilt. Trim is worn, black coloration is rather flat but the polychrome scene is generally very good. CONDITION: Very good. 4-56601 (350-550)
