ANTIQUE OCCUPATIONAL SHAVING MUG WITH MOOSE. In the late 19th and early 20th C, if one frequented a local barbershop you would often have your own shaving mug. Most people, particularly if they had an occupation, had their shaving mug decorated with a subject matter representing their job, their interest or their history. This example, painted with large Bull Moose, obviously representing the owner’s fraternal association. The moose with a titled ring around its neck “T. A. P. LOYAL ORDER OF THE MOOSE”. The name of the owner appears above the moose “A. NITTEL” and the scene has gilt embellishments on either side. The top, base and handle also with gilt highlighting. Signed, “TVM LIMOGE” on the underside and in script “ALPHA”. SIZE: 3-1/2”h. CONDITION: Gilt slightly worn in places but generally strong. No chips or cracks. 4-56603 (200-300)
