ANTIQUE OCCUPATIONAL SHAVING MUG WITH GENTLEMAN BIRD HUNTING. In the late 19th and early 20th century, if one frequented a local barbershop you would often have your own shaving mug. Most people, particularly if they had an occupation, had their shaving mug decorated with a subject matter representing their job, their interest or their history. This example apparently depicts the owner’s favorite pastime, bird hunting. Scene depicts a gentleman with shotgun following two pointers in a wooded landscape. The owner’s name, “GRANT NORTON” appears below the scene and there are gilt embellishments on either side of the scene. The underside of the mug marked “TMV LIMOGE, FRANCE”. The top and base of the mug and handle with gilt trim. SIZE: 3-1/2”. CONDITION: Very good. Painted scene in nice, strong detail.4-56602 (350-450)
