HAND-CARVED WOODEN DECOY BY GUS WILSON OF SOUTH PORTLAND, MAINE. Gus Wilson is probably the most famous of all the old Maine decoy carvers. He was at one time a lighthouse keeper in South Portland, Maine and spent much of his day carving the various species of ducks that swam in the Atlantic Ocean below him. This example with nicely raised wings, typical Gus Wilson carved eyes and in-leaded head. It is also in a rare swimming pose. SIZE: 20” long (from tip of bill to tip of tail). CONDITION: Generally good. There is an antique patch or repair to the tail and while the head appears to have its orig paint, the body looks as if it may have been repainted long, long ago. 4-56591 (1,750-2,750)
