CHOICE CARVED WOOD & PAINT DECORATED PLOVER DECOY BY HAROLD HAERTEL OF DUNDEE, IL. The late Harold Haertel of Dundee, IL was not only a superb decoy carver and painter, but also a fine gentleman. His decoys are very much in demand and are especially appealing for their stylistic form, carved detail and paint patination. This particular example especially exemplifies Mr. Haertel’s renowned abilities with raised carved wings and wing feathers with exceptional detail both in carving and exquisite paint patination. This particular example is a Mongolian Plover and is in the manner of renowned 19th century decoy carver Lee Dudley of Knots Island, North Carolina. Harold signed the decoy on the underside with his initials, “HH”. The plover is mounted on a small pin with the orig plaque made by Haertel and signed on the underside “MONGOLIAN PLOVER BY HAROLD HAERTEL / 1985”. SIZE: 7” long x 6” high (incl plaque).
