RARE BUFFALO SKINNERS KNIFE SET AND CARRIER. This set is unusually shaped being tapered cylindrical, about 8″ long by 3″ diameter at the top and 2-1/2″ at the bottom. It is leather-covered with several pieces of rawhide with one sewed seam and a repair held with iron tacks with reinforcement around the top, also with iron tacks. It has a very old carrying strap, spliced together from three pieces with wire. It contains five knives including a Green River style skinner with 4-1/2″ curved blade and two-piece hardwood handles. A genuine straight blade Green River knife with 4-3/4″ blade and hardwood handles. Another Green River butcher knife marked, “PROFESSIONAL” with 8″ blade and hardwood handle with five brass tacks on each side. Also included is a homemade knife with 5″ machete-style blade with tiny horn handles. CONDITION: Carrier is very worn and dry. Leather is rock-hard with a grayish-black scaly finish. Carrying strap is broken. Knives are all generally very worn with pitted gray blades and warped handles except the butcher knife whose blade has been polished bright, the handles are good.
