A LARGE EARLY PAINTED ROUND WOODEN SHAKER CONTAINER. This 18th or early 19th century hand-made storage container is believed to have possibly been an insert that set inside of a wooden pail thus creating two compartments for storage. The piece has one bold wide fingered wrapping strap and a similarly constructed lid. It appears that there was never another band below the initial band approximately 2” of the original wood side thus making the diameter of the piece on the bottom smaller than the diameter of the top. It retains its original old worn green and black surface with a stencil on the top lid and boldly stenciled on the bottom H. F. Lombard. SIZE: Approximately 13” in diameter and approximately 7” h. CONDITION: Paint has a nice old patina with a small amount of wear. Otherwise, structurally prime and clean. 9-29464 (350-550)
