ALEXANDER POPE JR (American, 1849-1924) PORTRAIT OF ROGER LEWIS BARSTOW, JR. Large oil on canvas portrait shows a distinguished gentleman with white hair, mustache and balding head seated wearing a brown fur lined black coat. Black suit, burgundy tie with white shirt. He wears leather gloves. Sitting in a scroll armchair. Signed upper left “Alexander Pope 1912”. Housed in a replacement gesso decorated gilt frame. Stretcher has label “No. 2137”. Mr. Barstow was a member of the New York Stock Exchange and owner of the Chase & Barstow Brokerage House of Boston. PROVENANCE: Descended in the family of the sitter. SIZE: 36” x 30”.
