RARE DAUM ENAMELED VASE. Extremely fine flat gourd shaped vase has enameled decoration depicting Rene II; the Duke of Lorraine. It depicts the Duke atop his horse with Cross of Lorraine decoration on the horses halter. Decoration is set against an opalescent, sandblasted background. Vase is further decorated on the backside with a round white border with red Cross of Lorraine and engraved depiction of a castle with a gold enamel spread eagle and flowing banner with Cross of Lorraine decoration and “Priny Priny” in blue enamel. Vase rests atop an applied opalescent and enamel saucer foot. The blue opalescent body appears to be dichroic and changes from blue opalescence to fiery orange when backlit. Signed on the underside in gold enamel “Daum Nancy” with Cross of Lorraine. SIZE: 9-3/4″ t. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. 5-65941 (8,000-12,000)
