RICHARDSON & WOODBURY MAGAZINE RIFLE.

RICHARDSON & WOODBURY MAGAZINE RIFLE. Cal. 30. 24-1/4” part octagonal bbl, marked only “PATENT” in an arch on the top of the bbl. Mark Richardson and Grayton Woodbury were issued patent 496231 on 25 April, 1893. This patent encompassed 13 claims, taking 2 full pages to describe. Basically, this is a magazine repeater with the bbl sliding forward on the magazine tube for loading. The combination rear sight and bbl catch appears to be the second as there is a filled dovetail in front of the present one. Pictured in Vermont’s Gunsmiths & Gunmakers, p:268. CONDITION: Bbl appears to have been plated at one time but no other part has any finish. Stock has minor handling marks. Rear trigger is actually a safety and both must be pulled at the same time to fire the gun. 4-52497 FS22 (1,000-2,000)
