JAMES DANIEL TORLAKSON (American, 1951-) “ASHLAND AVENUE 1973”. Oil on canvas realist scene shows a street side view of two side by side modern houses with cars parked in front of a cement sidewalk and curb. Shadows are cast from a sunlit view. The back stretcher has a John Berggruen Gallery, San Francisco, California label indicating artist and title. Signed lower right. Housed in a black frame which is set away from the edge of the canvas. Torlakson is known for his realist watercolors and an oil painting rarely comes on the market as large as this. A prime example of the early photo realism school whom Torlakson was one of its earliest participants. SIZE: 30-1/2” x 42”. CONDITION: Very good to excellent. 9-26619 (8,000-10,000)
