EXTREMELY RARE C.B. HOLDEN BICYCLE RIFLE. Cal. 410. NSN. Most unusual rifle with 18-3/8” rnd bbl with brass bead at the muzzle. The top of the bbl has a small flat which is hand stamped, “C.B. HOLDEN WORCESTER, MASS”. It is mounted in a spur trigger shotgun type receiver with the release on the right side of the hammer. It has a most unusual cast metal forearm that has a thumbscrew take down which, when unscrewed, releases a small center section allowing the bbl to be removed. Only a screw through the forearm retains the bbl. It has a pistol type grip with 2-pc walnut panels and has a nickeled dovetail butt, which is slotted for a brass skeleton stock. Accompanied by a copy of a brief biography of C.B. Holden and a copy of Mr. Owens’ inventory sheet. CONDITION: About very good. Bbl retains a smooth even plum brown patina. Receiver and grip frame retain 80-85% dull original nickel. Stock is a dark patina with about 25% original silver plating. Forend retains 65-70% original nickel plating, bright on the front end. Grips are chipped at the frame and slightly shrunken with light nicks and scratches and retain traces of original finish. Hammer will not hold in the safety notch, otherwise mechanics are fine. Bore has fine pitting. 4-52485 JR651 (2,000-4,000)
