SCARCE EARLY WINCHESTER DELUXE MODEL 1876 LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 45-75. SN 8073. Early 2nd model rifle with impressed thumb print dust cover on a screwed on rail. It has 28” oct bbl that has been modified to 16 flats, about the last 16” from the muzzle. It has full magazine with combination front sight and Marlin style long semi-buckhorn rear sight with Lyman tang sight. It is fitted with single set trigger and beautifully grained about 3X checkered American walnut wood. It has the early style checkering toward the back edge of the forearm and a fleur-de-lis black insert pistol grip stock with crescent buttplate with trap. Accompanied by the Cody Firearms Museum yellow sheet identifying this rifle as being shipped on March 11, 1879. CONDITION: Bbl as noted, otherwise very good. Bbl retains 60-70% dull original blue that may clean better. Magazine tube retains an even dark plum/blue patina with light pitting near the muzzle end. Receiver retains 75-80% case colors, bright on the sideplates, muted and fading elsewhere with some light surface rust on the left side. Wood is sound showing moderate to heavy wear and retains most of a fine professionally applied oil finish. Good mechanics, brilliant shiny bore with one or two spots of pitting. 4-52546 JR291 (10,000-20,000)
